​​What's Inktober?

Inktober is an annual art challenge to develop positive drawing habits and connect with art-makers across the globe. The challenge is to create art every day in October, in response to daily art prompts. Started by Jake Parker in 2009, Inktober is now followed by thousands of participants every year. Though there is one ‘official’ Inktober prompt list, the challenge has spawned hundreds of spin-off prompt lists, like this one!

#LokiLovesInktober is an annual conservation-focused Inktober challenge, run by Loki Loves artist, Vanda Cummins. Each year, #LokiLovesInktober partners with a conservation organisation, and we are proud to support the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) this year and learn more about the work that they do to protect our wildlife and environments.

How to use this page?

Throughout October, we'll explore 31 unique prompts, each spotlighting a different threatened species. Every day, you'll have the opportunity to create artwork inspired by these incredible creatures, learn about their habitats, and discuss the challenges they face. Join our vibrant community in the Facebook group for live creation sessions and engaging discussions as we work through the prompts together. Let’s make a difference through art while having fun and connecting with others!

I'll be sharing my art on socials and we invite you to do the same, it's a great way to help raise awareness for these species and the work that ACF does.

2024 Partner: Australian Conservation Foundation

I am so very excited to announce I'll be supporting the Australian Conservation Foundation for our 2024 challenge.

​

"We’re the Australian Conservation Foundation, Australia's national environment organisation. Since 1965, we’ve protected the nature we all love – our unique wildlife and our beautiful beaches and bush.
Driven by the power of people, we won World Heritage listing for the Great Barrier Reef and  Kakadu National Park, and returned precious water to the rivers of the Murray-Darling. We influence governments and businesses to protect the animals, rivers and reefs close to our hearts and hold decision-makers to account without fear or favour. Everything we do is evidence-based and helps nature and people thrive for generations to come. We won’t give up until Australia’s nature is protected and regenerated."

Why do I do this?

Running #LokiLovesInktober2023 is a labour of love, and yes, it's a LOT of work, all done on a volunteer basis. 

It combines two of my favourite passions: art and nature. I'm dedicated to nurturing a kind, creative community of nature lovers and ambassadors. Conservation is my driving force. As I explore Australian biodiversity, I'm fuelled by the desire to preserve and protect it. I want to share this passion, inspiring others to venture out, explore, and always stay curious.

As an artist, Inktober is a magical time for me as I first discovered it in 2019 and I enjoyed the challenge and community aspect of it so much I take part every year no matter what else is going on. I use this time to try new techniques/styles and to learn more about myself as an artist.  I hope you'll join in. Love Vanda x
