What's Inktober?

Inktober is a month-long art challenge created by artist Jake Parker that is focused on improving skills and developing positive drawing habits. Every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing or artwork and posts it online.

I hope you have lots of fun with this list, the prompts are entirely open to interpretation! All mediums are welcome and feel free to do as little or as many of the days as you like.

How to use this page?

There are 31 prompts varying from Threatened to Critically Endangered Australian species, many of them in Victoria. For each prompt I have added a photo, click the photo to get the Wiki link (where possible), there's also links to conservation organisations or reference links below the photo, to help you learn more about the species and maybe find a cause special to you to support.

I tried to make it easy to find references and info for you, click the buttons to download the reference sheets in PDF or Excel format.

This year I wanted to combine 2 of my favourite things! Nature conservation is very close to my heart and the more I learn about our amazing Australian biodiversity the more I want to preserve and protect it. In collaborating with Remember The Wild this year I have learnt so much more about threatened species and I love the work they do.

Remember The Wild is Australia's first and foremost nature connection charity. Our goal is to be leaders in the improvement of human-nature relationships and contribute to understanding these relationships through our research. We exist to help facilitate opportunities for people to connect with nature and increase the number of 'nature moments' community members experience through producing high-quality creative content. Remember The Wild seeks to bring experiences of the natural world back into our lives, for the benefit of both the environment and ourselves. Dedicated to improving public access to nature, we reconnect communities with the local environment and help people remember why the wild matters.

As an artist, Inktober is a magical time for me as I first discovered it in 2019 and I enjoyed the challenge and community aspect of it so much I take part every year no matter what else is going on. I use this time to try new techniques/styles and to learn more about myself as an artist.
